JiffyStent

Revolutionising the management of acute renal colic and kidney stones

A revolutionary medical device that enables the immediate insertion of a ureteric stent in the Emergency Department using clinician’s smartphone as the screen.

The JiffyStent® avoids the need for hospital admission and a trip to the operating theatre and associated general anaesthetic, thereby saving considerable time, resources, and costs.

The Challenge

10% of the population will experience excruciating kidney stone pain at some point in their lives

Every year, 0.2% of the population has an episode of kidney stone pain requiring a trip to the Emergency Department. And every year, 600,000 stents are inserted to alleviate kidney stone pain.

Current management of the excruciating pain caused by obstructive kidney stones is unnecessarily costly in terms of prolonged pain, money, and time.

It entails a long and complicated regime of strong opioid pain relief, fasting, waiting for Operating Theatre availability, and the administration of general anaesthetic, all for a procedure that should otherwise take under five minutes.

JiffyStent will revolutionise the management of this condition, entering the market with a simple, safe, and cost-effective solution that will reap significant benefits for patient wellbeing, hospital workflow, and health economics.

Patients receive on-the-spot relief from their pain and can resume normal life quicker, while the pressure on already overburdened hospital systems is significantly reduced.
