JiffyStent Wins the Prestigious Early-Stage Innovation Forum at AusMedtech 2024
Adelaide, Australia - May 22, 2024 – JiffyStent has been awarded the winner of the Early Stage Innovation Forum at AusMedtech 2024.
Held at the Adelaide Convention Center, this highly anticipated pitching event invited nine of Australia’s MedTech startups to deliver rapid-fire pitch presentations to a panel of industry leaders chaired by Sarah Meibusch, Partner at OneVentures.
The AusMedtech conference celebrates innovation in healthcare technology by bringing together industry leaders, investors, experts, and tech enthusiasts across Australia. It allows participants to explore the latest breakthroughs and address challenges faced by MedTech organisations.
In their winning presentation, Co-founder and CEO, Dr. Joseph Ischia, showcased JiffyStent’s single-use medical device designed for the immediate insertion of ureteric stent in the Emergency Department (ED)
As a widespread and painful urological condition, patients with kidney stones require urgent relief through surgical intervention. However, the current care pathway relies on hospital admission, operating room and general anesthesia, which is time-consuming and costly. The JiffyStent device allows urologists to perform ureteral stenting in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia, saving time, resources, and costs while enabling immediate relief from pain and fast recovery of patients.
The conference was attended by the JiffyStent team, including Co-founder and Chief Engineer Donald Fry (AO), Cyril Dixon, CTO, and other key members.
“We are honoured to receive this recognition at AusMedtech 2024,” said Dr. Ischia. “The JiffyStent offers significant benefits for patient care, hospital efficiency, and healthcare costs. This win motivates us to continue advancing our mission to transform urological care.”
The award is another feather in the cap of JiffyStent, which has previously been awarded the MDPP (Medical Device Partnering Program) Grant led by Flinders University and funded by the Government of South Australia and selected for the Australian Clinical Entrepreneurship Program (AUSCEP).
